Shoulda Woulda Coulda

Shoulda said I love you
But fear stole my tongue
Woulda looked into your eyes
Yet I was blinded by the pain
Coulda told you everyday
That you were the only one

Shoulda held you in my arms
But addiction paralysed my will
Woulda held your hand so tight
Only the urge was washed away
Coulda embraced your gentle soul
In ecstasy that you were mine

Shoulda been there for you
But the bottle caged my being
Woulda walked the earth with you
if I could only have lifted my soul
Coulda been the man you needed
Standing beside through it all

Shoulda never let you go
But I was lost beyond repair
Woulda stayed by your side
Shame I was never in control
Coulda lived a blissful life
Because you were all I needed

Shoulda held on to your protection
But my world became my burden
Woulda turned out oh so different
If I was there within my heart
Coulda made our love last forever
But now all I can say is “I’m sorry”
