LINKS OF THE SERPENT
I see them in the corner
Coiled up
Motionless
The chains from which You freed me
Still silent
Yet it begins to stir
Why must I look
How does it hold my gaze
The shining links
Of the chains that once held me captive
Chains of my own making
Like the snake they begin to rise
Once they choked the life from me
Yet with my silent tears
You heard my cries
You came to set me free
Breaking the chains
To bring me life
But now the beast begins to move
The links are restless
A serpent rises
With fork tongue telling lies
Of these chains are who I am
They remain of who I was
Once You broke the chains
That held me down
Now help me Lord, cast them to the sands
To turn to dust and be lost in time
So I may walk freely once again

There are times like this evening, where I have to delve into the details of my past addicted life, that makes me evermore thankful for verses like this one, because I am so thankful that He heard my cries and broke those chains that bound me in my darkness.
