Verse of the Day – Psalm 34:1

Psalm 34:1

Psalm 34:1

As I quickly approach five years sober, my praise for the strength that the Lord gave me to overcome who I was and my addiction, will ever be on lips.

EVER BE by BETHEL MUSIC & KALLEY HEILIGENTHAL
Your love is devoted like a ring of solid gold
Like a vow that is tested like a covenant of old
Your love is enduring through the winter rain
And beyond the horizon with mercy for today

Faithful You have been and faithful you will be
You pledge yourself to me and it’s why I sing

Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips

You Father the orphan
Your kindness makes us whole
And you shoulder our weakness
And your strength becomes our own
Now you’re making me like you
Clothing me in white
Bringing beauty from ashes
For You will have Your bride

Free of all her guilt and rid of all her shame
And known by her true name and it’s why I sing

Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips

You will be praised You will be praised
With angels and saints we sing worthy are You Lord
You will be praised You will be praised
With angels and saints we sing worthy are You Lord

And it’s why I sing
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips

150 Sober Weeks!!!!!!!

This one has crept up on me a little, it was only in the last couple of days I realised the significance of today, that another magic milestone has arrived, this time it’s 150 weeks of Sobriety that I celebrate.

Could I really have believed all those weeks ago that I could actually have made it this far.  There have been temptations, many, including just last week when I had a blazing row with a co worker, one that would not listen to my explanation and continued to force his opinion, oh and this was the same guy that called me ignorant/anti social for not going to the Christmas party.

I have to say I was shaking with rage, but managed to keep some sort of composure, I simply declined to argue further when it was obvious he wasn’t listening to any reason, unbeknown to him one of the Regional Managers was in the adjacent office and heard everything, he wasn’t happy.

“Your opinion isn’t a trump card, it doesn’t simply beat everyone else’s!”

It situations like that which put me on edge, then I begin to think a drink would bring the calmness that it used to, but it’s the new strength that helps me to overcome that and bring a calmness without resorting to alcohol.

What I’ve realised over the last three years is that sobriety doesn’t automatically take away all your problems, but it does stop you from hiding from them.  In time it gives clarity and in time allows you to begin addressing each one.

It’s not an overnight process, but a lifestyle, a choice, a victory!

I still have things I struggle with, some I still keep hiding deep inside, some things I just keep trying to hide from the world and I guess from God, although I know He see’s all and in the end I find myself in such I mess I commit them to prayer anyway, the instant I do that the pain I carry begins to ease and I find that peace again.

I certainly could not have made it far without the strength I receive daily for the Lord, from my first prayer He answered and He continues to answer.

THANK GOD FOR HIS GRACE AND MERCY.
