Brief Update

Just a quick update tonight, no long winded posts, I promise.

For the third morning running I’ve been up and walking, spending time thinking things through and submitting them to God, my head certainly feels a lot clearer than Sunday afternoon.

I’ve also booked an appointment at the Doctor’s, to see the Doctor I want I’ll have to wait until next week, but I have an appointment. Part of posting “Excuses” was that I became accountable, once I had admitted it I could no longer avoid it, this morning I received a few twitter messages urging me to make an appointment, but by the time I read them I had already done it, I guess I challenged myself and I passed the test.

I met with James for tea and discussed where I am with where I am at the moment. It helped to discuss things and get them off my chest, I certainly feel a lot better for it.

From there we went to football with other guys from Church, for only the second time in seventeen years I’ve played football, the last time was with these guys at Unleash last year. It was a great work out and I really enjoyed it, I may have a bruise or two, a few aches in the morning and a patch of skin missing on my knee, but who cares, I got stuck in.  I’m going to try to rearrange me schedule so I can get at least once a month.

Over the weekend I’ve realised I really have lost a bit of that balance in life I had earlier in the year, walking again has really started to help, so slowly I feel I’m starting to get back on track.

YOUR VOICE by KIM WALKER-SMITH & SKYLER WALKER
With Your voice speak to me
The words I long to hear

With Your hand guide my way
Through my night till darkness fades

I just want You
I just want You
I just want You

With Your hand guide my way
Through my night till darkness fades

I just want You
I just want You
I just want You

There is no greater need
You make my life complete
You set me free

Your voice alive in me
The sound of victory
You speak to me

Your voice is the light
Shining through the doorway
Of my heart and comes alive
When You speak into me

You’re my life
You’re my life
You’re my life
You’re my life

I just want You
I just want You
I just want You

Kids, Food, Spiders & Crocodiles

Another great day with the sun out once again, so after a lazy morning, the kids and I took to the park to soak up some sun.  We had a great time, well they did especially, I sat and watch mostly, a little to old for climbing frames and swings now.

Ben found a few friends to play football with, which kept him occupied for a while, whilst Eve continued to play and the equipment, though they came together to play again, before we had a quick game of football between us.

We left the park for a drink at the Pub around the corner, where they then decided they were hungry and gave those sad faces until I said we could eat there, they know which faces to pull!

They both chose their meals and I chose a burger tower which they said was like Man Vrs Food or Dad Vrs Food, when it arrived they said I wouldn’t finish it, but I proved them wrong, Adam Richman would have been proud!

It’s been a great weekend with the kids, Eve in particular has kept us entertained, on Saturday her scream rang throughout the house when there was a spider in the back room, you may remember how I previously saved her from a spider, well this time she took it on herself, the tiniest of spiders was hanging from the ceiling by a single thread and she was waving a brush handle at it, widely swinging and grandly missing, so I calmly scooped up the spider and put it outside, incredibly for me without pulling off one of it’s legs.

Then yesterday morning I woke to find her walking around the house dressed in a crocodile outfit, not the strangest thing I’ve ever woke to, but pretty close!

Oh well, back to work tomorrow, lots to do as usual, but I’ll be glad to get back into a routine again, plus get rid of the extra pounds I’ve put on this weekend!

THIS LIFE by THE AFTERS
I come in to tuck her in
I’m so tired from where I’ve been, doing all I can to stay awake
As she goes on about her day, I hang on every word she says
She reaches out and puts her hand in mine
For a moment, we are here together
And it hits me that this won’t last forever

We can’t own it
We just get to hold it for a while
This life
We can’t keep it
Or save it for another time
This life

He was always there for me
Now he’s fighting just to breathe
I tell him it’s ok to let go
As I look into his eyes, I know that this won’t be the last time
But for now, we’re taking different roads
For a moment, we are here together
And it hits me that this won’t last forever

We can’t own it
We just get to hold it for a while
This life
We can’t keep it
Or save it for another time
This life

What we give is all we have
How we love is what will last
And this hope we know will carry us through
What we give is all we have
How we love is what will last
And this hope we know will carry us through this life
What we give is all we have
How we love is what will last
And this hope we know will carry us through this life
What we give is all we have
How we love is what will last
And this hope we know will carry us through

We can’t own it
We just get to hold it for a while
This life
We can’t keep it
Or save it for another time
This life

We were never meant to stay
So we don’t have to be afraid
Of what is waiting on the other side of this life

Sunday Sun

Strangely for a UK Bank Holiday the Sun has shone today, it’s been probably the best day of the year so far in terms of weather and also just for spending quality time with friends.

Following Church today some of our leaders organised a picnic on one of our local parks, Scone Hills.  Usually I can’t make these events due to my karate classes on a Sunday afternoon, but we always cancel our Sunday class on Bank Holidays so I was free to join in the fun.

An afternoon of ultimate frisbee, rounders and football, needless to say as a 39 year old I’m now shattered, it’ll be an early night this evening that’s for sure.

But most of all it was a great time spent with some fantastic friends who have stood beside me all the way through my recovery, they stand by me still, also it was an opportunity to get to know a few people I haven’t previously connected with.

I may suffer in the morning with sunburn and aching limbs, but who cares, if that’s what you get for spending quality time with friends, then it will be well worth it.

For the song to accompany this post I choose the last song I listened to as I walked to Church this morning, it says it all really, I THANK YOU FOR LIFE.

FOR LIFE by DOWNHERE
For memories on a starlit night
North of the Denbigh line, oh Lord
For frosted pines shining like diamonds in the morning sun
For a pretty girl and for falling in love, oh love
For spring ice churning the driftwood shore
For birdsong air and windswept hair
For fiddle head strings, and flower bows

For thunder clouds rolling in a purple evening,
While Aspen leaves play tamborine,
For a soul, a song, and a voice to sing,
Just what I’m thinking

Thank You, God, for the open sky
Mysterious depths of her ocean eyes
Thank You for my dreams, my dreams
A poetry both tragic and beautiful
Thank You for life

For everything revealed to see
For what’s kept in mystery, oh Lord
From the finer things to the shirt on my back
The less I have the less I lack
For passion and all that’s within me
All that’s within me

Behind every wonder I find a clue
Beginning to believe that it’s coming true
I look onto a new rose dawn debut
Because with every breath You make me new
Before I turn it in tonight
Thank You for life
