After darkened nights
Where I heard Your voice
Yet still never understood
I craved to return to the past
But there You took that all away
At the coming of the darkness
I spoke out my heart to You
“Lord bring me peace”
And strained eyes fell closed
Until they woke at morning’s call
Never a sleep so peaceful
Never one so full and complete
Eyes open I knew You had heard me
And gave me the glory of Your peace

As the storm comes
I pray
That the wave will fall silent
In my hope
That the rain dies down
I wish
I could see the sun and the stars
Not just the chaos of my soul
But my Lord hear my prayer
He calls out to me
Reassuring
When I lay my head
Will not be afraid
Consoling
With my hear upon my pillow
My sleep will be sweet
Reaffirming
He will be ever at my side
And when the time comes
He will calm my storm

In the test I have triumphed
In the trials I have overcome
Yet this battle leaves my weary
I have no strength left within
This night Lord I lie before You

That tomorrow I will not rise
With the heart to face the day
I pray Lord for Your peace this night
I pray Lord for Your sweetest rest

I so remember those dark nights of being unable to sleep, that’s why I drank, to drink myself to sleep and escape. But now, since that first time that I prayed, I have been receiving the sweetest sleep ever.
